Alternative payments landscape in Brazil
Brazil is long-dubbed South America’s fintech heart, with a large part of the population comprised by young, extremely online, and smartphone-savvy consumers. In one of our latest case studies, we’re examining the growth of digital payments in Brazil in the last year and the outlook for the future.
According to Statista, the total transaction value in the digital payments segment is projected to reach US$90,532M this year (2021), growing at a CAGR of 14.58% by 2025. The increased adoption of digital payments by merchants and consumers could be a sign of a payments revolution in Brazil, where the unbanked still comprise around a third of the population.
The growth potential is huge, and according to a 2020 report by JP Morgan, the increasingly growing digital wallets are expected to outpace cash by 2023. Though it doesn’t come without its challenges.
